Playtest Release 0.1.5

Playtest 0.1.5 is now available!

This one has various important usability fixes/tweaks, including improvements to the grappling hook system (more swing), recharge UI accuracy, and checkpoint system.

Known Issues

Due to a well-documented side-effect of OpenGL's lazy shader compilation, there will be some initial lag when new materials spawn for the first time. This can include:

  • Sliding for the first time (ground particles)
  • Silkworm projectile spawns for the first time
  • Shooting for the first time
  • Spawning plants for the first time (including grappling)

Unfortunately, there is no "fix" for this yet - except some nasty workarounds which I will have to look into until Godot 4.0 comes out.

Changelog

  • Gravity: fixed a bug that caused gravity to apply too harshly after either grappling or mantling. The game will feel much floatier now.
  • Recharge UI: fixed an issue where the recharge progress was inaccurate (the indicator looked full when it wasn't)
  • Wallrunning: should now be more consistent/forgiving, the slope tolerance has been increased
  • Grappling: grapple hook now has a bit more "swing" to it, and pulls you slightly above and out from the grappling point instead of directly towards it. I'm hoping this will make swinging around feel smoother.
  • Grappling: fixed an issue caused by the grapple intersect system at small distances which would cause the grapple to cancel unfairly
  • Weapons: there is now a slight "cooldown" after firing your abilities (pistol plant and shotgun grapple) which should help reduce misfires etc
  • Visuals: added a glow effect, not certain on the performance implications. If it's too much I'll work on adding a setting for it
